Houston, Texas Area and Community Information

History

The city of Houston was developed as a business venture by two New York businessmen who promoted the purchase of Houston TX real estate. The city's location on the Gulf Coast made it a convenient shipping location. In the mid-19th century, most Houston home buyers were educated German businessmen looking for new opportunities in Texas. Many of these immigrants purchased real estate in Houston to develop into farmland. A fire destroyed many Houston TX homes in 1859, but the town quickly recovered. The discovery of oil on several Houston properties in 1901 proved to be an economic blessing for Houston. Today, Sandie Acord, an experienced Houston real estate agent, can help you find Houston homes for sale, whether you want to live close to the city or in a quiet suburb. There are homes for sale in Houston for any budget, no matter how large or small.
